Offline Files \\servername\users\username\(offli ne folder) iterates through all shares on \\servername\users\(sharename) in sync log
I am using offline files in windows 7 (domain is 2003). the folder is at location \\servername\users\testuser\fddocuments - this folder is "always available offline" when a sync takes place, files sync up correctly, but I am concerned - when I look at the offline files log in windows 7, the sync log looks like it double-checks all shares at location , \\servername\users\domainusername1 , \\servername\users\domainusername2, etc. an excerpt of the log (including the files synced correctly) is belowSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2000NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\SWilliamsOnly the server copy exists.NoClientCopy_DirOnServerSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2000NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\swilliams-aOnly the server copy exists.NoClientCopy_DirOnServerSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2000NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\TBatesonOnly the server copy exists.NoClientCopy_DirOnServerSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2000NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\TCarterOnly the server copy exists.NoClientCopy_DirOnServerSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2002NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\testuser\FDDocuments\$RECYCLE.BINBoth client and server copies exist.DirChangedOnClientSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2002NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\testuser\FDDocuments\Hardware Inventory - Copy (3).csvBoth client and server copies exist.FileSparseOnClientSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2002NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\testuser\FDDocuments\Hardware Inventory - Copy (4).csvBoth client and server copies exist.FileSparseOnClientSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2002NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\testuser\FDDocuments\Hardware Inventory - Copy.csvBoth client and server copies exist.FileSparseOnClientSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2000NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\tuser1Only the server copy exists.NoClientCopy_DirOnServerSee details for more information."Information11/18/2009 3:20:29 PMMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles2000NoneMicrosoft-Windows-OfflineFiles/SyncLog"Sync info for \\fileserver\users\TWinfieOnly the server copy exists.3:34 PM 11/18/2009why would this be happening? is this the default behavior for offline files and synchronization in windows 7? I feel as if this is I have configured incorrectly, a bug, or the default behavior of sync center. can someone please let me know?Spencer Williams

Hi Williams i would like to provide some of my ideas. i got same experience. i beleive you configure offline files using GPO by specifying a path like \\server\sharefolder\%username% under Computer Configuration. by doing this, all the users' folders will be made offline folders when they logon a computer. if multiple user had used a same computer, all those users' folders would appears offline available on that computer. that's to say, For example, A and B are the users who will have offline files as configured in your GPO. And you get a new computer and A is the first user. When A logs on and mapps that \\server\sharefolder a network drive, A will only see A's folder available offline. B's folder is not offline folder. then A logs off and B logs on. When B maps \\server\sharefolder a network driver, B will see both A and B's folders are available offline. *Note that A is offline available but not available to B.* then, when you sync the offline folders, all the folders(A's and B's) will be queued to sync. However, Synchronization is user specific, so only current user's folder was fully synchronized as you can see in the sync log. (all the subfolders under it will be synced) but other offline folders which dont belongs to current user will be skipped. that's why you see that "Only the server copy exists" was reported for them.
